Herstory was made in the all-knowing halls of the South African Women’s Parliament on Thursday 29 August when women from all over South Africa took over the National Assembly and were addressed as Honourable Members as they debated gender-based violence and celebrated the Women’s Charter.

As South Africans, we find ourselves only days away from Women’s Month, yet once again our nation is making headlines for all the wrong reasons—this time, gender-based violence of the worst order.

The purpose of the meeting is to strategise for building the survivor movement and to ensure that survivor voices are heard and taken into account in the debate on legal reform of adult prostitution.
